An early alcoholic drink, rum has been around since ancient times. Nothing if not old, it is practically forced to walk with a (sugar) cane. Though it wasn’t first distilled in plantations until the 17th century, rum is believed to have existed thousands of years prior in the form of brum, a drink made by the Malay people. In the 14th century, Marco Polo (the explorer, not the swimming pool game) wrote about a wine made of sugar, giving further credence to the belief that rum was around before the 1600’s.

The Volstead act or (Prohibition act) took effect in 1920, in several states across America laws were already in place to try and stop the consumption of alcohol, these laws were in effect before the 18th Amendment (Volstead act, Prohibition act) was passed before congress.
New York was the 1st state to have any such laws passed in the year 1697. This law simply stated that all saloons and drinking establishments must close on a Sunday as a Sunday is revered as a day of rest and prayer and not drinking. Then in 1735, the government introduced its 1st state wide ban on alcohol in the state of Georgia which absolutely failed and only lasted 7 years until 1742.

The starter bacteria used in preparing fermented dairy products have to remain viable at the time of consumption and capable of surviving in the intestinal tract to get maximum benefits from it (fermented dairy product). These bacteria should also be able to establish in the intestinal epithelium in sizable number by replacing resident harmful pathogens. The above said conditions can almost be met by Bifidobacteria when compared to other starter cultures.

Has this ever happened to you? You’ve been invited to a party and realize you don’t have a meal to bring. Not only that, but the party starts in an hour. What should you do?
You have four options:
Don’t go, and miss out on a really fun time.
Show up empty-handed and explain red-faced that you forgot.
Grab a casserole dish and head to the deli. Order your food and have them put it right into your casserole dish. Yes, I’ve gone this. It’s expensive but it works. If you get asked for the recipe, just wink and say “It’s Grandma’s secret recipe”.
Whip up a big batch of pasta salad for only a few dollars, and have plenty left over to eat for lunch during the week. You will save money and look good showing up at the party with a great dish.

On a bone chilling icy day nothing could be better than the sound of fire crackling from the fireplace, the smell of soup in the kettle, and cornbread in the oven. My nose was teasing my taste buds. My taste buds were basking in expectations of being bathed in absolute delight.
