It’s impossible to visit France and not to attend one of the main attractions of the French capital - the Louvre. The biggest and the most famous world museum was opened to public on August 10, 1793. Before that it used to be a private museum available only to the elite of the court. The palace, where the museum is situated, is more than 800 years old, being initially a fortress of Philip Augustus. Today there is a special exhibition devoted to this page of the museum history. Works of all historical epochs and art currents (up to the XIX century) are represented in the Louvre. The Italian collection, which is considered to be the best outside the limits of Italy, has always attracted connoisseurs, tourists and artists from all over the world.

Are Your Friends Hurting Or Helping Your Heart?

Friday, April 11th, 2008

Who are the five people with whom you spend the most time — at work, at home and socially? According to Jim Rohn, “You are the average of the five people you spend the most time with.” Could your relationships determine your heart health? According to a new study in the Archives of Internal Medicine the quality of personal interaction has an impact on your health.

Stress causes your body to produce cortisol, a chemical which damages your heart. Laughter, relaxation and sleep (along with exercise) eliminate cortisol from your body. So here is the question: Are your friends, family and coworkers helping you eliminate cortisol or creating it?

All About Shells

Saturday, April 5th, 2008

We moved to Florida when I was only 5, many, many years ago, before it became wall to wall houses, condos and shopping centers. But, about the seashells, moving there from Pennsylvania, the beach appeared to be a wondrous thing, and my parents took us there at least once a week, normally more often that that. At first we would take a few seashells home, but they were in such abundance that eventually we just walked by them, or picked them up, admired them and put them down. During the winter months, you would see tourists, who really knew nothing about seashells, combing the beaches for their bag of shells to take home to the frozen north, so they could remember their sunny vacation in Florida. Looking back all those years, I wish I had spent a few minutes each time we went to the beach to find only 1 or 2 of the best shells to save, but I didn’t.

The Forgotten City - Exploring The Mayan Ruins Of Coba

Friday, April 4th, 2008

Some of the most popular activities in Cancun are visits to the sites of ancient Mayan ruins. While many visitors are aware of the world-famous Chichen Itza and plenty of tours visit nearby Tulum, archaeologists and those in the know often recommend a forgotten Mayan city. Deep in the Mexican jungle rests the city of Coba, an expansive complex of stone structures and winding roads. Due to its remote location, Coba wasn’t explored by archeologists until the 1920s and remains mostly unexcavated. However, realizing the cultural value of the site, the local government constructed a modern road to the site in the 1970s and tours have grown in popularity ever since.

Grand Bahamas Island - Nature At Its Best

Sunday, March 23rd, 2008

Life is all about living it the way it comes. We humans tend to live life the way it wants to be lived. Getting up in the morning, going to office, dropping children to school, and all the other daily routine work, life seems to be the same old thing. I, myself, at times wonder how I manage to do the same old things everyday and then wait for the next day to do the same old thing. However, the fact remains that however boring our lives get, we can always do things to make it interesting and full of fun and excitement. These deviations come in various forms, but the most common thing is taking a vacation and going to some holiday spot to enjoy life and getting yourself refreshed. Well this in fact, is a very good way of being rejuvenated and especially if the place for the vacation is the Grand Bahamas Island. In fact, what I feel is that the Grand Bahamas Island is one of the best places to visit for a vacation with family and friends.

Sick Of Eating Healthy?

Friday, March 21st, 2008

When I read package labels in the supermarket, am I the only one who thinks I’m reading about “health” food? A food manufacturer makes his products low fat. That sounds healthy, right? Wrong. The products have so much sugar I could serve them for dessert.

I recently read that the average American eats two and a half pounds of sugar a week. First, who are these average Americans? If they eat that much sugar, shouldn’t they be easy to see? By eating natural sugar in things like apples - plus anything that means sugar because it ends in “ose” - plus man-made sugars like high fructose corn syrup, I supposedly see an average American every time I look in the mirror. How come if I’m constantly on a sugar high, I find this depressing?
